Thoughts from Quito convention

La Merced (Quito)
Nov. 22-24, 2019

  • Sometimes when we can’t get quiet, we blame others or our situation.  We have to learn to quiet ourselves.
  • There’s a lot of room to grow in love.
  • God gives the increase.  So our growth depends on our relationship with God.
  • The most important day of the week, the most important day of the month, the most important day of the year is today.
  • A sheep, even when lost and wounded, is still a sheep.
  • There was a little sheepdog in Ireland named Ernest. His first job was just to learn his name.  After he had done that, the shepherd took him out to see how he would do with the sheep. He set Ernest loose, and the little dog started running toward the sheep.  Before he got to them, the shepherd called Ernest back by name.  The little dog knew his name, but all he did was perk up an ear and hestitate just a bit in his stride before he continued running toward the sheep.  An observer commented to the shepherd, “Looks like that dog’s not going to be any good.”  The shepherd responded, “Did you see the way he perked up his ear and hesitated slightly?  I can work with that.”  We’re thankful the Lord can work with our imperfect responses.
  • The feeling “I can do it” separates us from God.
  • It’s not possible to be reconciled with God without being reconciled with His people.
  • Partaking of the Lamb gives us strength.
  • Bring the spirit of love to every meeting.  It makes a big difference.
  • We need to examine our own heart, thoughts and desires.  Examining others doesn’t help me.
  • It’s difficult to comprehend the power of Jesus’ intercession on our behalf.
  • The word of Jesus cleanses us when we put it into practice.  The example of Jesus cleanses us when we follow it.  The blood of Jesus cleanses us when we repent.
  • Comparing ourselves to others, measuring ourselves by others doesn’t help fellowship.
