Kids make the best...and most difficult...subjects.

"Here.  Let me put this on your lap."

Trying to take a selfie with the little critter reaching for my phone

"Say cheese!"

Got it!

Ready...Set...

 Go!!!!

Footwear frolic

Playpen antics

He did it!

"Be careful!"
Or whatever.

"What do you want?  What do you want?  Do you want me to take you out of there?"
Bravo, Auntie Kamela!  You guessed it!

And so the cycle continued until Auntie Kamela changed the game.

Working supper

Wait...What country am I in???
Yes, I really am having popcorn for supper.
Happy Friday to all.  And to all a good night.

Happy International Women's Day

After our Bible study in Puerres yesterday, Eli and I had lunch at Asaditos with Alicia and Sahara.

Celebrating bouncing toddlers and birthdays

This little bit is as expressive as they come, but it's quite tricky to get a picture or video that's not one big blur.  She's on the move!

And it's happy 40th (two days early) to the mommy of the house!

Shawl-making 101

After our Wednesday morning Bible study with Sra. Marina, she wanted to show us the shawl that she is currently creating.  Though she's getting quite up and years and her sight isn't very good, she continues to work on various macramé projects.  We watched her loop and weave and twist and tie for over half an hour before we finally had to excuse ourselves and run to our lunch appointment.

I don't know how she keeps all those threads from getting hopelessly tangled.  We did have a few "knot problems" while we were there, but not nearly as many as I would have expected, considering the seeming mess at Sra. Marina's feet.

Pupil Eli looks on.

Untangling

"This is why I told you before that anyone who sits beside me gets backhanded."
Eli wants to make sure that the side she's on is safe, and Sra. Marina assures her that she won't hit her.

She's done this for some 45 years!
They used to use a different kind of thread.  She can't remember what it's called, but she has some somewhere that she'll show us later.

It's just knots!
You can make scarves like this...whatever!

It got all knotted up!
This design is a tie's knot.  The other one is a fish tail.
A lady came and wanted Sra. Marina to make her one of these, but she said, "No!  I have other things I have to do."

She makes it look easy, but I think I have enough projects on my plate for now!  :-)

Dog thieves

After our last study of the day yesterday

Those are some tolerant pooches!

A sweet visit

Sra. Clara Luz is 96 years old.  She's illiterate and blind but still has her mind and a sweet smile.  She loves to listen to us sing hymns and sings along with the ones that she remembers.  She usually cries when we leave but tries to be brave when we tell her we'll come visit again soon.

Bump on the head

This is what happens when the taxi driver tries to shut the trunk when your head is still inside.

Play ball!

We usually have to run off right after our Saturday morning Bible study in Ibarra, but today we got to stay put.  That meant I got to play ball for a while with Victoria before lunch.

"Go get that one," she points.

"Will you stop taking pictures and play?"

She's not really a smiler, but I got a few grins out of her.

The church at Ibarra

It isn't numerous, but it is alive!

I got to hold this growing boy for the first time last night.  He's such a little sweetie!
