Rumichaca

This is where we cross the border, cross the border, cross the border...

Leaving Ipiales to make our way to the International Bridge at Rumichaca

They're widening the road on the Colombia side, so the construction adds to the traffic back-up.

This hotel sign reads "Open."  It's not so obvious in the picture, but it really is open.  The whole side of it is knocked out!  I don't think they're entertaining too many guests at present.

Passing immigration on the Colombia side

Traffic lined up on the other side to enter Colombia

That sign in the distance says "Bienvenidos al Ecuador."

Passing one of the stops for a drug check

Immigration on the Ecuador side
Fortunatelsy, since we have Ecuadorian cédulas (identification cards), we don't have to pass through immigration on either side.  We can go as far as Pasto, Colombia with out getting a stamp in our passports.

It's interesting reading these posts after hearing about this area from one of our visitors last summer. 😀
