Today's Spanish Word
cambiar
to change
A veces toca cambiar los planes.
Sometimes plans have to be changed.
*Up to this point, I have tried to write Spanish sentences that can be literally translated into English. I have decided that this will be a difficult trend to continue, so as of today, I will no longer guarantee literal word-for-word translations. Perhaps that will be of some use to you when you come to Ecuador!

Today's Spanish Word
la mochila
the backpack
Voy con la mochila cargada.
I'm going with a full backpack.
Karen and I are heading to the north side of Quito tonight and will be in Ipiales by tomorrow afternoon if all goes as planned.
Five year olds know all about it.
I received a note from a friend in Indiana today. Her five-year-old son had just shared these words of wisdom with her:
"Kamela LOVES meeting because she gets to pick ALL
them hymns!"

Today's Spanish Word
enfermo / enferma
sick
As is true with most adjectives in Spanish, this word must agree in both number and gender with the subject it is describing.
Kamela está enferma. - Kamela is sick.
(singular, feminine)
Mi hermano está enfermo. - My brother is sick.
(singular, masculine)
Brenda y Catie están enfermas. - Brenda and Catie are sick.
(plural, feminine)
Los chicos están enfermos. - The boys are sick.
(plural, masculine)
A bright spot in my day
After lunch, Karen ran down to Hansel and Gretel, a bakery just around the corner, and got us some dessert. I asked if they had anything chocolate, and they sure did! This ended up being both lunch and supper dessert.
