Macas to Cuenca

Looking out the window of our hostel in Macas

Our room accommodated the four of us quite nicely.

Linda and Karen left a little before Luz and I did on Tuesday morning.  When Luz and I arrived at the bus terminal, we discovered that there was no bus going to where we were scheduled to visit that day due to landslides.  We would have to cancel our plans and travel to Cuenca instead.  We were both quite sorry about it, but there was no other option.  There are two routes from Macas to Cuenca, and one route is definitely the preferred choice over the other.  However, it was the "other" route that had a bus leaving right away, so after assurances from the bus driver that it was safe, we bought a ticket.  As it turned out, he was right.  We had no trouble.  There were a couple of places when I looked out my window that all I could see was a steep drop, but we twisted and turned our way to Cuenca without incident.  I took quite a few pictures on the 7ish hour bus trip, so here's a sampling.

Many such curves exist on this road!

Caution tape: to keep you from going over the edge  :-)

Danger: Permanent landslides

Slow down

Can you see our road winding away out there in front of us?

See the electric tower way off in the distance?
