The Land Mine Game

This was a new game we tried this year.  A land mine field is set up in an open space.  (We taped wadded up balls of newspaper to the gym floor.)  Partners are selected.  One person is blindfolded.  The other person uses voice only prompts to get their partner from one end of the land mine field to the other without  "tripping" any of the mines.  Once across the field, partners switch rolls for the trip back to the other side.

Everybody is lined up and ready to go.

Paige gives Dad directions, forgetting that with a blindfold on, he cannot actually see which leg she is pointing at.

"One step?" asks Ashley.

Laura, ever the trendsetter, models her fantastic new headwear.

Cadence gets a ride through the minefield.  I don't know if I'd recommend trusting her with my life, Little C!  :-)

Dave tries to get his ears as close as possible to the little voice at the other end of the field that is yelling directions to him.

Step very very carefully!

Ashley looks like she's getting ready to take a mighty leap.

The spectator section

It appears that Kevin and Steve are holding hands on this most dangerous of journeys.

And now for a couple of "camera's rolling" shots...

At the end of it all, we decided that a few rule revisions might be necessary if we play this game again in the future, but we think everyone enjoyed it.  The kids thought it was especially great.  I think they could have led each other through the obstacle course all night!  And it turned out that being able to see right where you were going underneath your blindfold didn't make the game any less fun.  ;-)
