Becca and I met Dad, Mom, Kyle and Kalynn at Turkey Run yesterday for a quick excursion before I headed back to Illinois. I woke up to thunder around 6:00 in the morning, and when Becca and I left the house where we were staying, the sky was quite gray. By the time we arrived at Clements' Canoes, the sun was shining. And the bugs were out in FULL FORCE. After signing the waiver forms, a bit of a wait outside with the bugs and then inside the hot and airless van and an amazingly bumpy van ride, we were ready to begin our great expedition - paddling 5 miles down Sugar Creek back to the canoe rental place. Of course we took some time out for wading / swimming in the frigid water and for eating our delicious picnic lunch, but other than that, we were completely dedicated to relaxing in our canoes while the current pushed us gently toward our destination. No canoes were tipped, though Becca and I did get stuck on top of a rock at the very end of the trip. We managed to free ourselves sans outside help, however, and joined the others at the bank, very happy that we were able to provide them with a little entertainment. We decided to forego any further adventures at the park due to the predictions for thunderstorms with hail and the fact that it looked like those predictions might come true. Becca headed back to Kokomo to join up with Janet, and the rest of us got in the Illinois-bound car and drove to Mom and Dad's under sunny skies. It was the kind of day in which memories are made!
