Ali Shungu

Ali Shungu, the place where Karmen and I spent Tuesday through Friday nights was amazing!  Our private cabin had two bedrooms (sleeping for six), a living/dining room with a wood stove for heat, a large bathroom with a hot shower and a very well stocked kitchen.  There seemed to be picture windows everywhere there was space ones, and the views, especially the ones out the front of the cabin were phenomenal.  The place is less than ten minutes by vehicle from Otavalo.  It's advised to use the transportation that they provide because not just anyone knows how to get there.  And if it has recently rained, you'll need to go up in a truck.  Our hosts were extremely hospitable, offering to help us get around and do as much as we want and equally willing to basically leave us alone.  Not a bad place to spend most of four lovely days of tranquility and repose!

A quick tour of our cabin:

The bedroom I used had one double bed, an armchair and footrest, several small tables, an empty dresser, a rack for hanging things and two large picture windows.

Our side yard - the view from my side picture window

My bedroom was directly off of the kitchen and across from the bathroom.

The living/dining area

The front (and only) door

The kitchen (obviously)

The view from our front picture window in the living room
It would be interesting to know how many times we looked out this window and grabbed a camera.  It just kept being beautiful!

The bedroom that Karmen used had three beds - two singles and one double, an armchair and a love seat, a nice sized open closet, a dresser, several small tables and two picture windows.

And now we head out to the front "porch".  It was equipped with a small plastic table and several chairs.

And Sara, the friendly guardian of the grounds, was always game for a good belly rub.

There's that view out the front again!

Someone came and got a fire started for us each night that we would then keep going until we were ready to head for bed.  It kept things quite toasty!

So, if you're ever looking for the perfect place to stay, I daresay that both Karmen and I would both recommend Ali Shungu Lodge.
