Baching it

The apartment is right next door to a military cuartel, so there's usually something going on involving shouting and grunting and shouting and marching and singing and also shouting.

Mom and I decided to have a little mini preps upon arriving at "our" apartment.  We had personal laundry to do as well, so we washed our clothes along with all the sheets and towels to be found.  Without a dryer, everything had to be hung up to dry.  We found a space up on the roof but weren't sure if it was for all residents or for specific people, so we decided to just hang everything in the apartment.  That got interesting!  After awhile, every available space had something hanging from it or draped over it.  We got quite creative!

Also, I should mention that Quito is quite a bit cooler than anywhere we've been so far on these rounds, due to its higher elevation.  Especially when all the windows are open in your seventh-floor apartment so that the breeze can help dry the clothes that are hanging everywhere.  That meant we had to bundle up and even use some of our newly purchased blankets to keep warm.  Cozy!

The large picture window in the living room of the apartment affords a spectacular view of Quito.

Good night!

So, this apartment supposedly has hot water, but somehow it wasn't working so well on Wednesday morning.  I just wasn't willing to take a cold shower when it wasn't hot all around me.  That meant boiling water on the stove and dumping it into buckets then diluting it with a little cold water so it wouldn't scald me.  Now I'm all ready!
