Yes, we have an automatic ice maker.
It hasn't broken down yet!
I finally decided one day that I had gone long enough without ice, so I decided to do something about it.
If you would like to replicate my nice ice experience:
1. Fill a plastic bag with as much water as will fit in the available space in your freezer.
2. Double bag in case the first bag springs a leak.
3. Leave in the freezer for a day or two, rotating as necessary for a complete freeze.
4. When you can't live any longer without ice, open both bags. Drain any liquid ice into a cup.
5. Smash ice cube with hammer.
6. Remove the plastic that has frozen into the ice chunk. (At least as much of it as you can)
6. Spoon ice into your Happy mug for a refreshingly cold beverage.
No, I really don't take pictures every time I go up to the roof.
But when it's the only place I really go anymore, I sometimes feel a need to document it. :-)
The tall building to the right with the blue roof is the supermarket that we "frequent."
Looking out to the main street of Sacha (tree-lined boulevard at the end of our street)
Laundry on the line
Looking back toward the stairs
Our water supply
The owner of the key-making shop (small green building to the right of the long blue one) has been selling pineapple the last few weeks to supplement his income. They're delicious!
Our oven
It's just so cute!
Because it uses the heat from the burner(s) of our little gas stove, the oven temperature never rises much above 325, but we've made it work so far.
Spying on the neighbors
From our apartment we can see down into the yards of two neighbors. From the rooftop, we can see more. While we don't actually spy on anyone, it is interesting to see people out in their yards feeding the chickens, ducks, rabbits and dogs, washing dishes and clothes, working in the garden, etc.
Walking onto our rooftop
Our bach is in a four-story apartment building. This shot is taken from the top of the stairs as I was coming down from the roof. Our apartment is one floor down and to the right, directly across from the wood door that you can see in the middle of the picture.
Looking straight down into the patio area of our landlord and his wife
Sunset colors from the rooftop
Pigeon trap
Apparently pigeon soup is quite tasty?
Notice the fancy "downspout"?
Another shot including the downspout
And a couple of shots from my bedroom window:

Kitchen reorganization project
I didn't get a before shot, but here are the middle and after pictures.
Looks like we're pretty well stocked!
